May 2021 Update
COVID-19 Procedures:
The shop has reopened to customers on May 18th. For the time being, we ask that all customers wear a mask while inside the shop.
Schedule a repair by email or phone call:
For full service repairs like tune-ups, we’re scheduled out about three weeks. We know it is getting nice out and you want to ride this weekend, but everyone else saw the sun at the same time.
Please call or email for an appointment. If we’re out of the shop or not answering, the phone number is text enabled. We check voicemail when we can, but please know we’re more responsive by text.
We will accept limited small repairs for minor issues such as flat tires and adjustments at the beginning of our day. We simply don’t have adequate staffing for the current level of demand.
Which brings us to…
Now Hiring:
Want to join the team that made us the Washington City Paper’s “Best Place to Get Your Bike Fixed” for 2020? We’re looking for exceptional customer service professionals and skilled mechanics that will keep our customers riding. If you have experience in retail and want to share your love of city cycling, drop us a line at jobs@thedailyriderdc.com with a resume and cover letter. Already a bike mechanic? We know you’re in demand at the moment, so feel free to see if our shop environment might be a welcome change of pace.
May 2021 Bike Arrivals:
Reports from all of our distributors indicate shortages, delays, and high demand complicating an already stressed supply chain. We have orders that were placed in mid-2020 that will be partially filled but cannot guarantee what or when they will arrive. Some bikes slated to arrive are the second wave of the new Tern GSD and models from Fuji and Breezer.
Breezer:
A small number of Breezer Midtown models remain in stock. Please call for size and model availability. These city oriented hybrids balance a sturdy build with an athletic position for a great all-rounder.
A full compliment of Breezer Downtown EX models just arrived (5/1). We have a full selection of sizes now (5/14). This upright town bike is well suited for utility or casual riding and comes equipped with rack and fenders.
In addition, the Breezer Downtown EX Step Thru arrived (5/1) in graphite and red. These should be available in all sizes once we get them built. Just like the Downtown EX, it is fully equipped and ready for town biking.
Also arriving this week (5/14) are two 15″ Fuji Absolute 1.7 bikes. If you had been searching for a hybrid and fit the size requirements (5’0″-5’5″) call or stop by, as they won’t be here long.
The all new Tern GSD has returned to stock (5/13) and is now available to test ride. We have several of the base model version in flat black. This supremely capable electric cargo bike has been improved with a suspension fork and all new Bosch Cargo Line motor.
Our selection of electric cargo bikes is decent for the moment, but we are seeing stock shortages there as well in certain sizes. If you’re looking for an electric Yuba Supermarché,we have one remaining in stock that is nicely equipped for passenger carrying duties.
BICYCLE PARTS SHORTAGES
The industry-wide shortage of parts extends beyond our borders. Our bike vendors have told us they’re having trouble getting parts for bikes on the production line, leading to further delays. For us as a local shop, this means we will also experience limited inventory throughout 2021. This will cause repair delays, and restrict our ability to fix certain issues. Common parts like tires and derailleurs will be in short supply for the next 18 months until manufacturers can replenish the supply.
