November 2022 Update
November Shop News

Fenders and flannel become essential later in the month, but not as of this writing. If you need to get equipped, we’ve got you covered on the former and trust you can source the latter. There are still several weeks of prime riding days this month before it gets really cold. Our service bay is still active, but your repair wait time will be dropping with the temperature as we move through the month. If you’ve been holding off on booking an appointment throughout the summer due to our full calendar, this is your time.
Inventory updates
Our bike inventory is returning to normal levels with some 2023 models arriving this month and into the next. New models from Gazelle, Fuji, and Marin are all anticipated to arrive soon. We’ll have some detailed information on those once we get closer to the delivery dates. Several Tern GSD bikes are on the floor and ready to ride.
Thanks to you for an incredible 2022
We’ve had a great season and can’t thank our customers enough for supporting us. The last two years have been challenging, and we appreciate the patience and gratitude we have been shown. If we have made your riding life better, please share your experiences on your favorite review site. Since we’re a small business in every way, your descriptive review can make a big difference in who sees us and who doesn’t. Need a link to one? Here’s the one, and here’s the other.
If you would like to keep up with what’s happening in the shop in a more immediate fashion, we’re still on Twitter and Instagram (subject to change).
Election 2022
How would you like DC to look in the future? If you’re a voter in DC, you have a say in this by participating in local elections. While many races are uncontested or have a clear favorite to win, there are others that could be decided on election day.
As owners of a transportation-focused bike shop, we’re partial to candidates who push for safe and connected bike infrastructure, and while we’re not in her SMD, we would ask our customers and friends of the shop who live in ANC 6A04 to vote for Amber Gove in this upcoming election.
Amber is on the ballot after facing a failed recall effort in October.
We have watched for several years as Amber chaired monthly ANC meetings through agenda items that affect matters of everyday life in the neighborhood. From personal experience, these hyper-local meetings are not always run with this same level of care and concern for the issues covered.
We’re proud to support Amber because we know that she represents the interests of her community. We hope to work with her and all of the 6A and 6C commissioners to improve traffic safety and address housing issues in the neighborhoods where we work, live, and ride.
Repair Calendar Update
We’re getting into the best time of the year to book your annual maintenance. Our booking calendar is coming down to about a week out for scheduled service. If you have a larger project or custom build, this would be the time to discuss that. Most small repairs can be handled day-of drop off or within 2 days. Text or call us to see if we can fit you in that day.
New Service options:
Our updated tune up menu rolled out in September with some new packages. They’re designed around a more holistic approach to bike repair and maintenance. Over several years we have seen thousands of bikes in our stands, and every one is unique. Starting this month, we’ll fit the tune you need with your prior maintenance history along with your goals for riding in the future. We’re also adjusting pricing to sustain our high level of service, while retaining the same great staff our customers have come to trust.
Weekend days are fully reserved for walk-ins. If you have an urgent repair, let us know so we can prioritize getting you back on the road.
Looking for a new job?
If you’re looking for a position in the bike industry, we’re always looking for friendly, technically savvy people to serve in mechanic and retail positions. Send us an email with a resume and a brief message letting us know some things your resume doesn’t express.
November 2022 Bike Stock
Bike inventories have improved significantly. The ebike category is still limited, but this month we’ll be adding to our current stock with some new bikes from Gazelle. Standard bikes are more available .
Tern
Several S10 LR and LX models remain in stock from our last restock. These bikes have a more basic chain and derailleur drivetrain, but are just as cargo-capable as the rest of the Tern GSD fleet. New colors debut on these bikes with the S10LR coming in a spicy Tabasco orange, and the S10LX coming in this classic blue-grey.
Breezer
Several stepthrough Breezer Downtown EX models are in stock right now. These upright town bikes are well suited for utility or casual riding and come equipped with rack and fenders.
Fuji
- For people looking for one of the best production singlespeed bikes available, the Fuji Feather is back in the shop after a nearly three year absence. The simplicity of the build and styling make this bike an instant classic. Available in red.
Marin
- The road disappears and terrain gets more unpredictable, and the Marin Nicasio 2 is the bike you chose for this exact moment. The Nicasio 2 is sure footed and ready for all day gravel expeditions or occasional off-piste excursions. When not out in the wild, this bike is perfectly content with city streets and less intense adventures.
- One of the stars of 2020 and 2021 has returned to the shop. The Marin Fairfax 2 is the upgraded version of Wirecutter’s pick for favorite commuter bike. With a lighter frame and hydraulic brakes, this stops as well as it goes. Available in medium, large, and extra large.
- Muirwoods RCBack for what will likely be a limited time, the Marin Muirwoods RC (medium, large) blends mountain bike performance with urban comfort styling.
- One of our favorites for value and performance, the Marin Presidio 1 has returned in medium and large. If you’re looking for a budget conscious performance hybrid ($689) built with city riding in mind, come in and try it out.
BICYCLE PARTS SHORTAGES
The supply chain issues of 2020 and 2021 are mostly behind us, but we’re still seeing certain components that have not returned to on-demand status. Most of these are higher-end drivetrain parts and certain niche accessories. We’ve found alternatives for many of our customers and
