February 2022 Update
Closed Sundays in February:
Already a short day for us, we’re taking off the first three Sundays in February. We’ll resume Sunday the 27th with regular hours.
COVID-19 Procedures:
The shop has fully reopened to customers. All employees and customers are required to wear a mask while inside the store in compliance with DC’s directives regarding COVID.
Repair Calendar:
February is typically our shortest wait time of the year for full tune-ups. Schedule for this week or next by calling or texting us and we’ll reserve a date. Also, just a note here that the main email inbox for the shop will not be monitored for the majority of February. Best to call or text the shop for a response.
February 2022 Bike Stock:
Bike inventories remain historically low, with limited size and color selection. We’ll try to keep our customers updated with incoming stock announcements here and on Twitter. Some models from Marin and Fuji have arrived, and we’re making progress on getting them built. Looking for a budget-minded but fully functional e-bike? We just had the Gazelle T9 City arrive and are impressed with the price and performance combined into the complete package.
Tern:
For the first time in over a year, the HSD P9 returns to the shop. Tern redefined compact cargo with the GSD and delivered again with this bike. Sturdy, capable, and just the right size for apartment dwellers, the HSD shortens the commute and makes short work of most errand running. The Verge calls this a “solid workhorse” and after having one in our own household for over a year, we agree. This little bike will be a welcome addition to any active urban stable.
An allocation of Tern GSD models will be arriving late this month or early March. Send us an email or call to be put on the reservation list. Both colors of the S10 LX (dragonfruit and school bus yellow) are coming with this order.
Breezer:
One 48cm Breezer Downtown EX step-over in bronze, and one 50cm step-through in graphite arrived in this most recent order. These upright town bikes are well suited for utility or casual riding and come equipped with rack and fenders.
Fuji:
Fuji sent us an almost full size run (17″, 19″, 21″) of Absolute 1.9 bikes. We also received the Fuji Absolute 1.7 in 19″ and 21″. We’re building these as quickly as possible, so call in to see if we have your size and model on the floor.
For people looking for one of the best production singlespeed bikes available, the Fuji Feather is back in the shop after a nearly three year absence. The simplicity of the build and styling make this bike an instant classic. Available in red or black.
Marin:
The road disappears and terrain gets more unpredictable, and the Marin Nicasio 2 is the bike you chose for this exact moment. The Nicasio 2 is sure footed and ready for all day gravel expeditions or occasional off-piste excursions. When not out in the wild, this bike is perfectly content with city streets and less intense adventures.
One of the stars of 2020 and 2021 has returned to the shop. The Marin Fairfax 2 is the upgraded version of Wirecutter’s pick for favorite commuter bike. With a lighter frame and hydraulic brakes, this stops as well as it goes. Available in medium, large, and extra large.
One Marin DSX 1 in Extra Large has arrived. The size runs a bit small from our brief in shop test, so if you’re above 5’10”, this one is an option. Marin calls this a bike for long distance multi-surface commuting. We see a bike suited for weekday commutes with after-work gravel detours and weekend C&O camping trips. One in stock, so please call or email before coming for a test ride.
One of our favorites for value and performance, the Marin Presidio 1 has returned in small and medium. If you’re looking for a budget conscious performance hybrid ($689) built with city riding in mind, come in and try it out.
Back for what will likely be a limited time, the Marin Muirwoods RC (medium, large) blends mountain bike performance with urban comfort styling.
Gazelle:
The Gazelle T9 City redefines entry-level while delivering the complete e-bike experience. At $2,299, this full-featured electric bicycle offers all of the latest technologies and essential equipment. Racks, lights, and fenders are all standard equipment. To make this complete, you just have to add a bag or basket and a secure lock before setting off for your first trip.
If you’re looking for an electric Yuba Supermarché,we have one remaining in stock that is nicely equipped for passenger carrying duties. It is the only bike in the store which we will negotiate on price.
BICYCLE PARTS SHORTAGES
If you have been hearing about supply chain issues, know that the bike industry has been hit especially hard. Common parts and accessories are either not available, or slow to arrive. We have no control over what is available to us and have done what we can to stockpile as many common parts to keep us in service for the upcoming months. Some industry sources indicate this may not completely resolve until 2025. So, if we have your bike in for repair and it can’t be completed, please know that this is happening at every shop in our country and beyond our borders.
