March 2021 Update

COVID-19 Procedures:

class=”s1″>With expanded guidance related to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have modified our operations to keep our staff and customers safe. While we previously operated in a “zero-contact” manner, we are allowing brief interactions with customers outside. We require masks to be worn when interacting with our staff outside.

Please call or text when arriving.

The effects of the 2020 bike boom in the US has bike shops and manufacturers trying hard to meet demand. We’re being told by several distributors that our 2021 bike orders cannot be completely fulfilled.

Schedule a repair by email or phone call:

If you need to get your bike tuned, this month is the beginning of our busy season. Our current repair calendar is about one week long. This will increase as soon as weather is above 60 degrees. We know it is getting nice out and you want to ride this weekend, but everyone else saw the sun at the same time. Please call or email for an appointment. If we’re out of the shop or not answering, the phone number is text enabled. We check voicemail when we can, but please know we’re more responsive by text.

We will accept limited small repairs for minor issues such as flat tires and adjustments at the beginning of our day. We simply don’t have adequate staffing for the current level of demand. Which brings us to…

Now Hiring:

Want to join the team that made us the Washington City Paper’s “Best Place to Get Your Bike Fixed” for 2020? We’re looking for exceptional customer service professionals and skilled mechanics that will keep our customers riding. If you have experience in retail and want to share your love of city cycling, drop us a line at jobs@thedailyriderdc.com with a resume and cover letter. Already a bike mechanic? We know you’re in demand at the moment, so feel free to see if our shop environment might be a welcome change of pace.

 March 2021 Bike Arrivals:

We’re anticipating some models from Fuji and Breezer in April, so check back here then.

New Restock (Updated 3/28/21) Fairdale Lookfar:

Kowabunga Green Fairdale LookfarThe Fairdale Lookfar ($564) has returned to our shop. This has all the essentials that make a great city bike. The Lookfar keeps it simple with a 1×8 drivetrain and caliper brakes. Equip it for a commute by adding a rack and fenders, or keep it light and simple for afternoon fitness rides.

We have limited quantities of these and will not likely receive additional inventory in 2021. We’ll update availability here as supply levels change. Update for 3/28: Only medium models remain in stock.

The Fairdale Express ($499) takes the already simple Lookfar a step further. This singlespeed model is now available in small/medium. If you’re looking for basic transportation with low maintenance, this is your ride.

A small number of Breezer Midtown models remain in stock. Please call for size and model availability. These city oriented hybrids balance a sturdy build with an athletic position for a great all-rounder.

A limited number of 48cm Breezer Downtown EX models just landed (3/26) and are likely to not last long. This upright town bike is well suited for utility or casual riding and comes equipped with rack and fenders.

Marin Kid’s Bikes (Updated 3/28):

The Marin Donky 16″, 20″, and 24″ bikes arrived in December and we have a selection in our front window. These lightweight, aluminum-framed bikes all come with hand brakes. The 20″ and 24″ models have a 6 speed drivetrain for family rides that include hills or keeping up with parents and older siblings.

Our selection of electric cargo bikes is decent for the moment, but we are seeing stock shortages there as well in certain sizes. If you’re looking for an electric Yuba Supermarché,we have one remaining in stock that is nicely equipped for passenger carrying duties.

If you were looking for a Tern HSD, we now have the S+ in stock which when we first rode it changed our perception of biking.

BICYCLE PARTS SHORTAGES

The industry-wide shortage of parts extends beyond our borders. Our bike vendors have told us they’re having trouble getting parts for bikes on the production line, leading to further delays. For us as a local shop, this means we will also experience limited inventory throughout 2021. This will cause repair delays, and restrict our ability to fix certain issues. Common parts like tires and derailleurs will be in short supply for the next 18 months until manufacturers can replenish the supply.
