Dispatches from The Daily Rider

Late August/September 2021 Update

COVID-19 Procedures:

The shop has fully reopened to customers. All employees and customers are required to wear a mask while inside the store in compliance with city orders and CDC recommendations.

Schedule a repair by email or phone call:

Our repair calendar has us booking tune ups and larger repairs out about two weeks now.

Please call or email for an appointment. If we’re out of the shop or not answering, the phone number is text enabled. We check voicemail when we can, but please know we’re more responsive by text.

During the day we can accept a limited number of small repairs for minor issues such as flat tires and minor adjustment. We simply don’t have adequate staffing for most quick repairs while you wait.

Which brings us to…

Now Hiring:

Want to join the team that made us the Washington City Paper’s “Best Place to Get Your Bike Fixed” for 2020? We’re looking for exceptional customer service professionals and skilled mechanics that will keep our customers riding. If you have experience in retail and want to share your love of city cycling, drop us a line at jobs@thedailyriderdc.com with a resume and cover letter. Already a bike mechanic? We know you’re in demand at the moment, so feel free to see if our shop environment might be a welcome change of pace.

Vote for us in Washington City Paper’s

Best of D.C. 2021:

Last year, voters in the Washington City Paper’s Best Of DC competition named us the “Best Place to Get Your Bike Fixed” and we placed second in the “Best Bike Shop” category. We were pleased to be recognized with these accolades and have spent the last year ensuring that we kept up our exacting standards. If you have a moment to fill out a ballot this year, please show your favorite local establishments that you appreciate their work. In a year of such adversity, it really was a point of light for us and our employees.

September 2021 Bike Stock:

Reports from all of our distributors indicate shortages, delays, and high demand complicating an already stressed supply chain. We have orders that were placed in mid-2020 that will be partially filled but cannot guarantee what or when they will arrive. An order from Marin will arrive on August 31st, and we’ll be assembling them for sale the first week of September.

Breezer:

Downtown EX in Bronze

One 56cm Breezer Downtown EX model remains in stock . This upright town bike is well suited for utility or casual riding and comes equipped with rack and fenders.

Fuji:

If you’re the right size for this last 17″ Fuji Absolute 1.7ST (5’3″-5’7″ or so) then you might be in luck. The Absolute is a versatile fitness hybrid that does double duty as a city commuter.

Marin:

Marin Muirwoods

Marin Muirwoods in Black

The Marin Muirwoods takes a cro-moly mountain frame and adds some details to make it the perfect bike to excel in urban riding. The Muirwoods comes equipped with mounts for a rack and fenders, bottle cages, and a reflective decal package. We’re receiving them in extra large. Limited numbers.

2021 Marin Terra Linda in flat black

Think of the Marin Terra Linda as a Fairfax with a step-through frame. The Fairfax was the most popular bike in our shop for 2020, when we had them in stock. We’re receiving four in various models and sizes. Call after September 1st to see what arrived.

Marin Presidio 1

Count ’em, 1. We’re getting one Marin Presidio 1. One. First come, only served.

If you’re looking for an electric Yuba Supermarché,we have one remaining in stock that is nicely equipped for passenger carrying duties. It is the only bike in the store which we will negotiate on price.

BICYCLE PARTS SHORTAGES

The industry-wide shortage of parts extends beyond our borders. Our bike vendors have told us they’re having trouble getting parts for bikes on the production line, leading to further delays. For us as a local shop, this means we will also experience limited inventory throughout 2021. This will cause repair delays, and restrict our ability to fix certain issues. Common parts like cassettes and derailleurs will be in short supply for the next 18 months until manufacturers can replenish the supply.
